THE Nation Party, which is the newest political bloc in Kuwait, is essentially a "two-man party." However, the din being created by this party and its members far exceeds its size. The statements and opinions coming out of the Nation Party go far beyond important local issues. Several months ago, the founders of the party organized a bash in Al-Hajra area to announce the formation of the party. Many employees of the US Embassy in Kuwait were invited to attend the event. Members of the Nation Party grabbed the opportunity to have a photo-op and exploit it to create some noise on the local political arena. Recently, the Nation Party issued a statement, which contained a warning against the United States' threats to Syria, saying "in the aftermath of 9/11, a campaign has been launched to colonise the Arab and Islamic worlds. The international community has started understanding the dangerous effect of this campaign on world peace, especially after the events in Afghanistan and Iraq."
Referring to the current happenings in these two countries as a "bloody war," the statement said "the recent threats to Syria are a part of this colonisation campaign, the target of which is well-known." The Nation Party didn't forget to ask Syria to implement "some political reforms" besides creating a multi-party political system. Claiming the Arab Nation was the only target of colonial powers, the press statement ended with some nicely arranged Arabic words, which carried the tone of a powerful statement which was common during the Fifties. However, the Nation Party forgot to mention the fact that Arab Muslims were responsible for 9/11. It also didn't say anything about the perpetrators, who were proud of the damage they had done to the United States. The men who were behind the attacks on the World Trade Centre harmed not only the US but the whole world, especially Arab and Islamic countries.
In its press statement the Nation Party didn't utter a single word on how the bloody Taleban regime was hiding the most wanted terrorist in the world, Osama bin Laden and his cohorts, or the fact that this was the reason the civilized world was forced to topple that regime. The party conveniently overlooked the fact that Operation Iraqi Freedom was launched only to oust a criminal dictator, who had "colonized" Iraq for over 35 years. This dictator launched two wars against his neighbouring countries — including Kuwait, which is the homeland of members of the Nation Party. The former President of Iraq killed and raped many Kuwaitis besides setting fire to 700 oil fields. Nobody can stand listening to the hundreds of other unspeakable crimes committed by this man. The Nation Party, which is defending Syria, didn't say why that country wanted to control Lebanon or kill Rafik Al-Hariri. If the Nation Party had included all these issues in its statement we could have supported it. It appears what the party wanted do was only to raise its voice but it hid its face in the sand, like an ostrich.
