It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It has analgesic antipyretic and anti-inflammatory actions.

Mode of Action:

Diclofenac is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase. It also appears to reduce intracellular concentrations of free arachidonate in leukocytes. Its potency is greater than indomethacin, naproxen etc.

Pharmacokinetics:

After oral administration it is rapidly and completely absorbed. It shows substantial first pass

effect and it is highly protein bound. It is metabolized in liver and excreted in urine and bile.

Onset of action:

Analgesic effects 1 hour, antirheumatic effect about 2 weeks.

Duration of action:

Up to 12 hours

Adverse effects:

Nausea, vomiting, epigastric discomfort, skin ash, peptic ulcer, fluid retention, oedema, impairment of hepatic function rarely.

Special Precautions:

Impairment of hepatic, renal or cardiac function, children, blood coagulation disorders, recent procitis, gldisorders

Indications:

Managements of pain and primary dysmenorrhea when prompt pain relief is desired

Dosage:

Starting dose 50mg TID, In some patients an initial dose of 100mg followed by 50mg dose provide better relief. Maximum daily dose after the 1^st day 150mg

Store in a cool, dry & dark place
