• Drawings and specifications:

including but not limited to material, dimensional tolerance, machining requirements, actual or estimated weight and inspection requirements.
•​ Material: a specific metal grade or the preferred material and desired properties.
•​ Quantity: Include the anticipated volume, both present and future. Quantity has a large influence over production method, pattern development, and overall cost.

•​ Quality acceptance criteria, such as nondestructive test, mechanical testing are all critical considerations for a quote.

Casting Quality Testing and Inspection

Non-destructive testing (NDT)

Non-destructive testing is done by foundry workers, clients, and NDT technicians to verify the internal and external soundness of a casting without damaging the casting itself.

Visual Inspection

uses the human eye to identify surface defects, cracks, gas evolution, slag or sand inclusions, mis-runs, cold shuts, and molding flaws.

Dimensional Inspection

is undertaken to ensure a part meets dimensional requirements/tolerances. This can be done manually or with a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) that uses probes to get very precise measurements.
