Tapered roller bearings have tapered inner and outer ring raceways and tapered rollers. Taper roller bearing is designed to carry both thrust and radial loads and consist of four components: the cone, or inner ring; the cup, or outer ring; the tapered rollers, or rolling elements; and the cage, or roller retainer. Single row tapered roller bearings can support radial load and axial load in one direction. When the bearings bear radial load, they will produce an axial component, so you need another which can withstand axial force in the opposite direction in order to be balanced.
