structured packing typically consists of thin corrugated metal plates or gauzes arranged in a way that they force fluids to take complicated paths through the column, thereby creating a large surface area for contact between different phrases . it provides high capacity, high efficiency and lower pressure drop than any random packings and most trays. Because of the capillary effect, the wire gauze material provides an extremelly wettable surface, resulting in excellent mass transfer efficiency, particularly at very low liquid rates.
