17-4PH Stainless Steel Sheets For Golf Club Heads, AISI 630 Stainless Steel Plates

Club heads are made of two main types of stainless steel:

17-4PH, AISI 630 and X5CrNiCuNb16-4

This stainless alloy contains 15-17.5% chromium, 3.0-5.0% nickel, 3.0-5.0% copper, 0.15-0.45% niobium and other elements.

It is used largely for metallic woods, hybrids and some types of irons;

431, designated as X17CrNi16-2, 1.4057 in the European classification

This stainless alloy contains not more than 15.0-17.0% chromium, 1.5-2.5% nickel,

silicon, manganese and other alloying additives.

It is used for irons and putters, but is also strong enough for woods and hybrids.
