The brief
For this builders merchant steel building, we were asked to quote from an architects plan, to erect a storage building adjacent to the sales office for the storage of cement based products.

The concept
This was initially considered as a hot rolled building, but when evaluating the economic and practical options, a solution in cold rolled sections was agreed.

The solution
The cold rolled solution meant that the design could be simplified with a lean-to option used to dog leg around the existing sales office at the back.

The building didn’t require any heating as the products are turned around quickly, but dry storage was essential.

The existing concrete floor was suitable to remain, although it did slope it was strong and in a sound condition, the footings at each column had to be dug through the existing concrete.

The back wall was a boundary wall and as such has to be rated as a firewall, this had to be factored into the design, with fire rated panels used.

The footings had to be placed carefully and the position of the building was critical to avoid existing underground drainage and electric cables.

1.Inspection: 100% dimension inspection and visual inspection, gas tight test before delivery.
2.Manufacturing processes: Material inspection, material cutting, deburring, bending, assembling, welding, polishing/cleaning, shot blasting, machining, painting, packing, delivery.
3.Non-destructive testing: PT (penetrating testing), MT (magnetic particle testing), UT (ultrasonic testing), RT (radio- graphic testing).
4.Software: Solid Works, Pro/Engineer, Auto CAD (DXF, DWG), PDF, TIF, IGS, Tekla structures, STP etc.
5.Certification: AISC, EN1090&ISO3834, SGS, ISO9001:2008, BV
