The aeration tank usually receives pre-treated sewage, so it is less corrosive than the corresponding original sewage. However, injecting a large amount of air or oxygen into the aeration tank will aggravate the oxidation phenomenon, so the materials in contact with the effluent are required to have corrosion resistance.

This is why aeration tanks are usually glass fused to steel with adhesives or elastic seals.
