A release fork, also known as a clutch release fork, is a
mechanical component used in manual transmission systems to engage
and disengage the clutch.
The primary function of a release fork is to actuate the clutch
release bearing (also called the throw-out bearing). When the
clutch pedal is depressed by the driver, the release fork is moved,
causing the release bearing to apply pressure to the clutch
diaphragm spring. This action disengages the clutch, allowing for
gear changes or the ability to stop the power transmission from the
engine to the transmission.
