PRL Overview

Prolactin is a polypeptide hormone called prolactin (PRL), one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. • Increased PRL levels are also seen in precocious puberty, primary hypothyroidism, early ovarian function, hypoluteal function, organ breastfeeding, neuropsychiatric stimulation, and the effects of certain drugs.
• Factors such as chlorpromazine, birth control pills, large amounts of estrogen and hypertension drugs can lead to an increase in PRL. PRL reduction is more common in pituitary depression and prolactin deficiency.
