Malaysia SIRIM Certification For Electronic Products Entering Malaysia

Certification introduction
With the development of trade, buyers and consumers have increasingly higher requirements for product safety and quality. The Malaysian government stipulates that if products are regularly shipped to Malaysia, suppliers must apply for product certification. In 1998, Malaysia promulgated the new Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which specified detailed regulations for Malaysian telecommunications services and communications market access conditions.

At the same time, a new telecommunications regulatory agency, the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (CMC), was also born.

According to the "Communications and Multimedia Law", putting communication equipment on the market requires applying to CMC or a certification agency designated by CMC for type certification and obtaining an equipment certification certificate and certification mark.

The Communication Equipment Testing Section (CETS) under the jurisdiction of SIRIM is responsible for specific certification matters for communication equipment type certification.

SIRIM is the only certification management agency in Malaysia. Electronic products entering Malaysia need to apply for a SIRIM certification certificate. In principle, applicants should be local institutions in Malaysia. The application and management of SIRIM certification are specifically responsible for SIRIM QAS International, which issues SIRIM certificates.

SIRIM certified product range (general electrical products)
Communication equipment and the "Electrical Equipment Approval Regulations" stipulate that the following 31 categories of products must undergo mandatory type certification and safety certification respectively: plugs (below 15 A), switches and dimmers, sockets (below 15 A), fluorescent lamp holders and Starter rack, ceiling light box, bayonet lamp holder and multi-head adapter, fluorescent lamp (except separately imported lamp tube), fluorescent lamp capacitor, fluorescent lamp ballast, leakage protector, electric water heater (including separately imported heater), Hair dryers, table lamps, liquid heating appliances, electric irons, electric shavers, kitchen blenders, immersion heaters, hi-fi units, mosquito repellents, toaster ovens, electric fans, televisions, vacuum cleaners, players, washing machines , refrigerators, rice cookers, Christmas lights, household power tools, wires and cables (cross-sectional area 0.5~35㎡).
Other products fall under voluntary certification.
In addition to ordinary home appliances, key components such as plugs, power cords, switches, and LED power supplies also need to obtain SIRIM certification.

SIRIM certified product range (wireless products)
Controlled communication equipment includes:
· Calling Line Identification Prompt (ACLIP) facility for connection to PSTN.
· Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) transceivers.
· Connect to Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) using basic access.
· Use base rate access to connect to ISDN.
· Wireless phone system
· Low frequency cables and wires with PVC insulation and PVC sheath.
· Overvoltage protection device.
· Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) system connected to PSTN.
· Terminal equipment connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

Controlled wireless devices include:
· Amateur radio equipment.
· GSM mobile terminal.
· Land mobile radio equipment.
· Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) equipment.
· IMT-2000 third generation (3G) cellular mobile terminal.
· Short Range Device (SRD)

application process
1. Evaluate whether the product requires SIRIM certification
2. Conduct IECCB testing and certification (you can omit it if you have an IECCB certificate)
3. Perform ST registration. Energy efficiency products need to review energy efficiency reports.
4. Submit IECCE report and factory quality documents to apply for SIRIM certification
5. After the document review is passed, the application will be accepted and factory inspection will be arranged.
6. Factory review passed and submitted for approval
7. Issue SIRIM product certification certificate
