CCS Combo 2 – The European DC Fast Charging Connector

The CCS Combo 2 uses the IEC 62196-3 standard and is the European version of the CCS fast charging

protocol. It combines the Type 2 AC plug with two supplementary DC pins, allowing both AC and DC fast charging.

CCS Combo 2 provides up to 200 Amps current and DC charging up to 350 kW, though most chargers deliver 50-150kW.

It is the mandated DC fast charging standard for European vehicles. The CCS Combo 2 plug is found in most European

DC fast chargers are compatible with the protocol. Key advantages are high power delivery, integrated communication, and

extensive usage across Europe. But it has limited deployment in North America currently.
