ASTM A182 F92 Alloy Steel Fitting Forged 90Deg Elbow for Chemical Application

ASTM A182 F92 Alloy Steel Forged Fitting 90Deg Elbow B16.11 Chemical Application

ASTM A182 is a standard for forged or rolled alloy steel and stainless steel pipe flanges, forged pipe fittings, valves and parts for high temperature use. F92 is a material under this standard, belonging to the 9-12% Cr martensitic heat-resistant steel family, and can be called improved 9Cr steel.

The most prominent advantages of ASTM A182 F92 alloy steel are its exceptional high-temperature strength and creep strength. In the temperature range of 600°C-650°C, the creep rupture strength of ASTM A182 F92 is significantly higher than that of materials like F91. It also offers excellent resistance to oxidation and steam corrosion. In terms of thermal conductivity and coefficient of thermal expansion, ASTM A182 F92 alloy steel outperforms austenitic stainless steels like 304H and 347H, while its coefficient of thermal expansion is lower, helping to reduce thermal stress and fatigue. Regarding machinability and weldability, while more difficult to machine than carbon steel, ASTM A182 F92 alloy steel offers better machinability than similar high-alloy steels. Its weldability is more sensitive than F91, requiring strict preheating, interpass temperature control, specialized welding materials, and extremely precise post-weld heat treatment procedures. At the same design temperature, the allowable stress of ASTM A182 F92 alloy steel is significantly higher than that of materials like F91, allowing for the design of thinner-walled components, reducing weight and improving efficiency.

In the chemical composition, chromium provides basic oxidation resistance, anti-oxidation and corrosion resistance for ASTM A182 F92 alloy pipe fittings; molybdenum improves the strength and creep resistance of ASTM A182 F92 alloy steel fittings; and tungsten is the key element that distinguishes ASTM A182 F92 from F91. Tungsten is a very effective solid solution strengthening element, which significantly improves the high temperature strength and creep strength of F92; vanadium can form fine and stable carbonitrides (V(C,N)) with carbon/nitrogen, providing precipitation strengthening, hindering dislocation movement, and greatly improving creep strength; niobium can form fine Nb(C,N) precipitation phases, refining grains and providing precipitation strengthening; nitrogen can combine with vanadium to form VN precipitates, which is one of the core elements of precipitation strengthening and also has a solid solution strengthening effect; carbon can provide the necessary strength for F92 alloy and participate in the formation of carbides; F92 also contains trace amounts of boron, which is very important. It is enriched in grain boundaries, can reduce the grain boundary diffusion rate, and significantly improve the grain boundary strength and creep resistance; nickel helps to stabilize the austenite phase and improve hardenability.
