1. Preparation Before First Use
Check the seal: New lotion pumps usually have a sealing ring or
locking tab (such as a plastic ring or snap on the bottle neck) to
prevent leakage during transport. For first use, unscrew the pump
head, remove the sealing ring or unlock the snap, and then reattach
the pump head.
Press to release air: Some lotion pumps require multiple presses (5-10 times) to release the product. This is because the pump tubing is initially empty and pressure needs to be built up.
2. Normal Use
Pressing the pump head:
Single press: Press the pump head vertically downward to dispense an appropriate amount of product (usually a single press is designed for a single use).
Multiple presses: Repeat presses for a larger amount.
Applying the product: The lotion will be squeezed out of the pump head outlet. Apply directly to the palm of your hand, a cotton pad, or your fingertips.
3. Post-use Precautions
Cleaning the pump outlet: After use, wipe the pump outlet with a
tissue to remove any residue to prevent the lotion from drying out
and clogging the outlet.
Locking feature (if available): Some lotion pumps have a twist-lock design. After use, rotate the pump head to the "locked" position (usually the pump head will sink or become unpressurable) to prevent accidental pressurization and leakage.
4. Troubleshooting
No liquid:
Check that the seal has been released.
Press the pump several times to try to release the air.
Check if the straw is broken or if there is too little product in the bottle (you can tilt the bottle or refill it).
Leaking: Ensure the pump head is tightened or check that the bottle threads are aligned.
5. Other Tips
Applicable Products: Lotion pumps are suitable for medium-flowing
liquids (such as lotions, body washes, shampoos, etc.). Excessively
viscous products may cause difficulty in pumping.
Refills: When the pump is empty, you can purchase refills of the same size for environmental and economical reasons.
