  5. Versatility in Part Complexity

    • Capable of shaping parts of any complexity, FDM is ideal for forming parts with complex cavities, holes, and other intricate features.
  6. Minimal Warping Deformation

    • The raw materials undergo no chemical changes during the forming process, resulting in minimal warping deformation of the parts.

How FDM 3D Printing Works

The filamentous thermoplastic material is heated and melted through a nozzle with a micro nozzle (usually 0.2-0.6mm in diameter) at the bottom. Under computer control, the nozzle moves to a designated position based on the data of the 3D model, extruding the molten liquid material which then solidifies. This process is repeated, with each layer of material being deposited on top of the previous one, until the final product is formed.

Materials for Industrial-Grade FDM Plastic 3D Printing

Common materials used in FDM 3D printing include wax, ABS, nylon, and other thermoplastic materials. These materials are fed in filamentous form and heated/melted inside the nozzle during the printing process.

Advantages of Industrial-Grade FDM 3D Printing

  • Due to the simple construction principle and operation of the hot melt extrusion head system, low maintenance cost, and safe system operation.
  • The molding speed, although slower, does not require the scraper processing step found in SLA technology.
  • Prototypes formed with wax can be directly used for investment casting.
  • Capable of shaping parts with complex geometries, such as those with intricate cavities and holes.
  • The raw materials undergo no chemical changes during the forming process, resulting in minimal warping deformation.
  • High utilization rate of raw materials and long material life contribute to cost-effectiveness.
