1. Improve drug utilization.
2. Increase the water solubility of poorly soluble drugs.
For example: Dihydroartemisinin and artemether are insoluble in
water. After being encapsulated with hydroxypropyl
beta-cyclodextrin, their solubility can meet the requirements of
powder injection. The solubility of digoxin in 100% hydroxypropyl
beta-cyclodextrin solution is increased from 0.07mg/ml to 130mg/ml
compared with that in water.
3. Reduce drug toxicity and side effects.
For example: The vasodilator drug nimodipine is insoluble in water
and is susceptible to first-pass effects of the liver when taken
orally. Using hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin to make an injection
for intramuscular administration can significantly increase the
absorption of the drug by the organism and reduce damage to the
gastrointestinal or muscle tissue.
4. Increase drug stability.
For example: After estradiol is encapsulated with hydroxypropyl
beta-cyclodextrin and placed at room temperature, its degradation
half-life can be extended from 1.2 years to 4 years.
5. Hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin is very safe for organisms.

Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD, HPBCD) is a type of hydroxyalkylated hydrophilic derivative formed by the condensation of β-CD and propylene oxide. It is a white or off-white amorphous or crystalline powder; odorless; strong hygroscopicity. This product is highly soluble in water or propylene glycol, easily soluble in methanol or ethanol, and almost insoluble in a.cetone or chloroform.
Hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin is a hydroxyalkylated derivative of beta-cyclodextrin. It has excellent water solubility (the solubility at room temperature is greater than 500 mg/ml) and has a significant solubilizing effect on drugs that are difficult to dissolve in water. It has been used as a solubilizer for injections abroad.
