The BYD Song PLUS Front Windshield is a vehicle-level safety glass accessory developed specifically for this model. Manufactured using laminated safety glass technology, it fits Song PLUS DM-i, EV, and gasoline versions all series.

Safety Precautions

Always use the glass sealant recommended by the manufacturer. Using improper sealant will affect the original bonding performance. Read the manufacturer‘s instructions and ratings carefully before operation and follow all precautions throughout the process. If the coated surface is scratched or damaged, it should be repaired or replaced; otherwise, the damage may gradually spread.

Removing the Old Glass

Step 1: Remove Peripheral Components

Remove the wiper arms, interior rearview mirror, A-pillar trim, and other obstructing components. Cover the body, dashboard, and surrounding areas with tape to prevent scratches during installation.

Step 2: Cut the Old Sealant

Use a piano wire or specialized cutting tool to cut the polyurethane sealant along the glass edge. Pull the wire carefully to avoid damaging the body surface. Cutting must be performed at the edge of the weatherstrip to prevent damage to the body paint. This operation is recommended to be performed by two people to ensure smooth removal, and place plastic shims to protect the dashboard assembly from scratches.

Step 3: Remove the Old Glass

After the glass is separated from the body, two people should work together to remove the old glass from the vehicle.

Step 4: Clean Residual Adhesive

Use a utility knife to remove residual old adhesive from the body frame. Clean thoroughly around the windshield perimeter to avoid affecting the sealing performance of the new glass installation. Wear gloves during operation for self-protection.

Installing the New Glass

Step 5: Apply Primer

Apply sufficient primer to the body bonding area and the glass bonding surface perimeter, maintaining a width of approximately 15mm. Refer to the product instructions for primer drying time (typically a few minutes to 30 minutes).

Step 6: Apply Sealant

Apply glass sealant evenly to the body bonding area. Use a caulking gun to apply adhesive along the inner edge of the windshield bonding position, ensuring the adhesive is even, continuous, and uninterrupted. The adhesive bead cross-section is recommended to be triangular, approximately 8mm wide and 14mm high.

Step 7: Install the New Glass

Lift the glass (two-person operation required), and align the clips on the inner surface of the glass with the body holes. After adjusting for even gaps, press the glass onto the adhesive surface and press firmly. The lower end of the windshield can be drilled with a φ3.5mm drill bit to install a fixing clip for positioning assistance.

Step 8: Secure and Inspect

After installation, confirm the glass is fully adhered to the body. If the weatherstrip is not fully attached, press and secure with tape until the bonding area is completely fixed. Check whether the gaps are even and the glass is flush.

Step 9: Reinstall Remaining Components

Reinstall the wiper arms, interior rearview mirror, A-pillar trim, and other previously removed components.

Curing and Testing

Step 10: Curing Wait

Do not drive the vehicle before the sealant is fully cured. Refer to the sealant manufacturer’s instructions for curing time. Avoid suddenly closing doors before curing, as this may cause the glass to loosen or detach.

Step 11: Water Leak Test

Perform the water leak test only after the sealant is fully cured. Never use a high-pressure water gun for testing. If compressed air is needed during drying, do not blow directly on the sealant area, and do not use infrared lamps or other heat sources.

Step 12: Leak Repair

If water seepage is found during testing, fill the leak area with sealant. If leakage persists after repair, remove the glass and reinstall following the steps above.

Note: Front windshield replacement involves related components such as airbag sensors and rain sensors. Professional technician operation is recommended. Sensor calibration is required after installation.
