Marine Hardware Supplier Heavy Duty Mooring Marine Double Horn Bitt Cross Cast Iron Bollards Marine Bollard
Core Material: Cast Iron
This bollard is clearly marked "Cross Cast Iron." Its material
selection is primarily based on the unique requirements of maritime
applications. Its specific characteristics are as follows:
High Strength and Wear Resistance: Cast iron has a high carbon
content (2%-4%), resulting in a dense structure after casting. It
can withstand the intense tension and repeated friction of mooring
ships without deforming or wearing out.
Corrosion Resistance: Conventional cast iron undergoes surface
treatments (such as galvanizing and painting) to enhance its
resistance to seawater corrosion. Some high-end models may utilize
ductile iron, which offers superior toughness and corrosion
resistance compared to ordinary gray cast iron, making it suitable
for long-term exposure to marine environments.
Cost and Process Compatibility: Cast iron has good fluidity and is
easily cast into complex and asymmetrical structures like the
"double horn." This allows for high production efficiency and meets
the high-volume demand for maritime equipment.

The production process strictly adheres to iron casting
manufacturing standards while also integrating the performance
requirements of maritime hardware. The key steps are as follows:
Mold Making: Based on the design drawings of the double-angle
bollard, a sand mold (usually resin sand or water glass sand) is
created. The mold must accurately replicate the "double-angle"
structure, mounting holes, and surface texture to ensure that the
final dimensions meet maritime regulations (such as ISO standards
or classification society certification requirements).
Cast Iron Smelting: Pig iron, scrap steel, and coke are placed in a
cupola or medium-frequency induction furnace in appropriate
proportions and heated to 1300-1500°C to melt and form molten iron.
Desulfurizers and inoculants are added during this process to
adjust the molten iron composition, reduce impurities, and enhance
the toughness of the casting.
Pouring: Molten iron is slowly poured into the sand mold along the
mold's gate. After the molten iron cools naturally to room
temperature, the sand mold is broken and the casting is removed.
The resulting "rough" part may have burrs and risers (excessive
portions left after the molten iron solidifies) on the surface.
Rough Machining and Finishing: Using mechanical tools (such as
lathes and milling machines), the casting risers are removed and
surface burrs are ground. Critical areas such as the bollard's
corners and bottom mounting surface are precision machined to
ensure dimensional tolerances within ±1mm, meeting installation and
mooring requirements.
Heat Treatment and Strengthening: The casting is placed in a heat treatment furnace for annealing or normalizing. This involves heating to 800°C-900°C and then slowly cooling to eliminate internal stresses generated during the casting process and prevent cracking during subsequent use. Ductile iron is also subjected to a "quenching and tempering" treatment to further enhance strength.
Surface Corrosion Protection: This is a critical step in maritime equipment. Common methods include:
Hot-dip galvanizing: The casting is immersed in molten zinc
(approximately 450°C), forming a zinc layer on the surface that
isolates the cast iron from seawater, providing a corrosion
protection life of over 10 years. Spray Anti-Corrosion Paint: Use a
marine-grade epoxy zinc-rich primer and polyurethane topcoat. Apply
2-3 even coats to a thickness of at least 80μm to enhance salt
spray and UV resistance.
Quality Inspection and Certification:
Appearance Inspection: Inspect the surface for defects such as
cracks, pores, and shrinkage.
Performance Testing: Tensile testing and hardness testing (such as
the Brinell HB hardness test) are performed to ensure that the
strength meets "Heavy Duty" standards.
Certification Review: Certification by international classification
societies (such as LR, ABS, and DNV) is required. In some regions,
compliance with local maritime authority regulations (such as China
CCS) is also required before shipment.

The Marine Double Horn Bitt features high strength, easy
installation, and wide applicability. Details are as follows:
High Strength and Durability: Typically made of ductile iron or
cast steel, these materials offer excellent strength and wear
resistance, can withstand the immense forces of mooring, and can
withstand long-term use in harsh environments.
Multiple Mooring Line Capability: The double-horn design allows for
simultaneous mooring of multiple lines, meeting the mooring needs
of various vessels and improving mooring convenience and safety.
Space-Saving: The small base footprint makes it suitable for
limited space in docks, berths, and other locations. Installation
within a limited work area improves space utilization.
Concrete Fillable: Some double-horn bollards can be filled with
concrete to further increase their weight and stability, enhancing
their ability to withstand the tensile and impact forces generated
during mooring.
Adaptable to Different Environments: Ductile iron bollards offer
excellent corrosion resistance and are suitable for warm
environments, while cast steel bollards are more suitable for cold
climates and are easier to weld and maintain. The appropriate
material can be selected based on different climate conditions and
usage environments. Compliant with Multiple Standards: Products
typically comply with international standards such as ISO 13795, as
well as certifications from various classification societies, such
as CCS, ABS, BV, and LR. This ensures product quality and safety,
enabling its use in ports and terminals worldwide.
Low Maintenance: Due to the durability and corrosion resistance of
its material, double-angle bollards require minimal maintenance
under normal use. Regular surface inspections and simple
anti-corrosion treatments are required to ensure long-term reliable
performance.

Double-angle bollards for ships are widely used in various ports,
terminals, and related areas. The following is an introduction to
their specific application areas:
Ports and terminals: These include container terminals, passenger
ports, and fishing boat terminals. They are used for mooring ships,
ensuring safety and stability during docking, undocking, mooring,
shifting, and maneuvering.
Industrial terminals: These include industrial oil and gas
terminals, bulk mineral and liquid terminals, and others. They can
withstand the significant pull of moored vessels and meet the
mooring needs of industrial material transport vessels.
Marine engineering: In marine engineering projects such as offshore
oil platforms and wind farms, they are used to secure offshore
platforms and wind farms, ensuring their stability in harsh marine
environments.
Yacht marinas: They provide mooring points for yachts. Their
aesthetically pleasing appearance and reliable performance meet the
needs of yachts and meet the overall environmental requirements of
yacht marinas.
Protective engineering: At the edges of water bodies such as
coastlines, rivers, and lakes, bollards stabilize soil or rocks,
preventing water from eroding the shoreline soil or rocks and
protecting shore structures from erosion. Bridge Construction:
During bridge construction, bollards can serve as temporary
anchoring points when piers are needed, facilitating the
transportation of construction personnel and materials and
improving construction efficiency.
Maritime Education and Training: In practical training at maritime institutions, bollards are important teaching aids for ship mooring. Through simulated bollard installation and mooring operations, students can intuitively understand the mechanical principles and safety regulations of ship berthing.

Warranty Service: Manufacturers generally offer a one-year warranty. During this period, if a bollard is damaged due to quality issues, the manufacturer will repair, replace, or refund the product. For example, Hebei Tiannuo's custom-made cast iron bollards come with a one-year, three-year warranty and a lifetime warranty.
