How to Install a Truck Cab Air Spring
Step 1: Lift & Secure the Cab
Use the truck's cab tilt mechanism to fully raise the cab.
THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE: Immediately place sturdy support stands or solid wood blocks under the cab's main frame. Never rely solely on the hydraulic lift cylinder. This is your primary safety backup.
Step 2: Replace the Air Spring
Release air pressure: Locate and disconnect the air line from the old air spring. You may hear a hiss as pressure escapes.
Remove the old unit: Unbolt the top and bottom mounting bolts. Some wiggling or gentle prying might be needed to free it.
Install the new one: Position the new air spring. Hand-tighten the new mounting bolts to ensure they thread correctly.
Reconnect: Push the air line onto the new air spring's fitting until it clicks and locks securely.
Step 3: Test for Leaks & Final Check
Carefully remove the support stands and slowly lower the cab.
Start the engine to inflate the air springs. The cab should rise to its normal height.
Leak Test: Mix soap and water and spray it on the air line connection and the air spring itself. Look for bubbles, which indicate a leak that must be fixed.
Go for a short test drive to ensure stability and listen for unusual noises.
