Low Density Rock Wool Insulation Board Lightweight With Heat Preservation

Lightweight Low-density Rock Wool Boards With Preeminent Heat Preservation Performance

Rock wool boards are produced using natural minerals like basalt as raw materials. The rocks are melted at high temperatures, then spun into fibers via centrifugal force. The density of rock wool board is the key indicator determining its performance and application. Products with different densities show significant differences in strength, insulation properties, and cost. Low-density rock wool boards typically have a density ranging from 40 to 80 kg/m³. They feature a relatively low thermal conductivity, generally between 0.038 and 0.045 W/(m·K), offering excellent thermal insulation performance. However, their compressive strength is weak with poor flexural resistance. They are lightweight and fluffy, with good air permeability. Although classified as A1 non-combustible materials, their structural stability is poor at high temperatures and they tend to shrink.

Advantages

Their advantages lie in high insulation efficiency; under the same thickness, their insulation effect is better than that of medium and high-density products, which can reduce material usage. They also have low costs due to less consumption of raw materials in production. Additionally, they are lightweight, easy to carry and cut, making them suitable for manual operations.

Applications

The main application scenarios of low-density rock wool boards are concentrated in non-load-bearing, light-load environments that require thermal insulation or sound absorption. In terms of non-load-bearing indoor thermal insulation, they are suitable for dry and non-loaded scenarios such as filling wall interlayers, insulating interior partitions, and attic insulation. Thanks to their porous structure, they can be used for ceiling sound-absorbing layers or wall sound-absorbing filling in places like conference rooms, offices, and machine rooms, with a noise reduction coefficient (NRC) generally ranging from 0.7 to 0.9, which can effectively achieve sound absorption and noise reduction. In addition, they can also be used for the outer insulation of light pipes without load-bearing requirements, such as air conditioning ducts and low-temperature water pipes. They can also be used for ceiling sound-absorbing layers or wall sound-absorbing filling in places like conference rooms, offices, and machine rooms by utilizing their porous structure. Moreover, they are applicable to the outer insulation of light pipes such as air conditioning ducts and low-temperature water pipes.

Comparison of Rock Wool Boards in Different Density

CategoryParametersPerformanceAdvantagesMain Application Scenarios
Low-Density Rock Wool BoardDensity 40-80 kg/m³; thermal conductivity 0.038-0.045 W/(m·K); compressive strength 30-80 kPa; noise reduction coefficient (NRC) 0.7-0.9Excellent thermal insulation, low strength, poor flexural resistance, lightweight and fluffy, Class A1 non-combustible but prone to shrinkage at high temperaturesHigh insulation efficiency, low cost, easy to carry and cutNon-load-bearing indoor insulation (wall interlayers, attics, etc.); sound-absorbing filling in conference rooms, machine rooms, etc.; insulation for air conditioning ducts and low-temperature water pipes
Medium-Density Rock Wool BoardDensity 80-120 kg/m³; thermal conductivity 0.042-0.050 W/(m·K); compressive strength 80-150 kPa; fire resistance rating 1-2 hoursGood thermal insulation, moderate strength to bear slight loads, some with moisture resistance, better high-temperature stability than low-density typeBalanced overall performance, wide application range, high cost-effectiveness, good construction compatibilityExternal wall insulation of buildings (mainly multi-storey buildings); insulation for non-heavy-load roof areas; insulation for hot water pipes and medium-low temperature industrial pipes
High-Density Rock Wool BoardDensity 120-200 kg/m³; thermal conductivity 0.048-0.055 W/(m·K); compressive strength ≥150 kPa; fire resistance rating 2-4 hoursThermal insulation meets basic needs, high strength, impact resistance, low shrinkage at high temperatures, strong weather resistanceHigh strength and stability, outstanding fire safety, good weather resistance to adapt to complex environmentsInsulation for load-bearing parts (ground, external walls of basements, etc.); fire barriers and firewalls in high-rise buildings; insulation for industrial kilns and heavy equipment
