To truly understand your excavator's hydraulic power, you need to know its two vital signs: Pressure (PSI/Bar) and Flow (GPM/LPM). Think of them as the dynamic duo working together inside your hydraulic pump. Flow (GPM/LPM) is the volume of hydraulic oil the pump delivers per minute. It determines the speed of your hydraulic functions – how fast the boom raises, the arm curls, or the bucket dumps. More flow generally means faster cylinder and motor movement. Pressure (PSI/Bar), generated by the pump and regulated by the system, is the force behind that oil. It determines the power or strength – how much weight the boom can lift, how hard the bucket can dig into tough ground, or how much force the tracks can apply to push. The pump creates flow; resistance in the system (like a cylinder trying to lift a heavy load) creates pressure. A powerful pump delivers high flow at high pressure. It's crucial they are balanced for your machine. Too little flow, and movements are sluggish. Too little pressure, and the machine lacks digging or lifting force.
