How They Work
The system is more than just the bags; it's a complete, interconnected setup:

Air Supply: An engine-driven air compressor fills storage tanks with compressed air.

Height Control Valves: Mechanical or electronic sensors are linked to the axles. They monitor the height of the bus.

Automatic Adjustment:

• When passengers board and the bus gets heavier, the chassis starts to sink.
• The height sensor detects this drop and opens a valve, allowing compressed air to fill the air spring bags, raising the bus back to its pre-set "ride height."
• When passengers exit and the bus gets lighter, the chassis rises. The sensor releases air from the bags to lower the bus back to the correct height.
• This process ensures the bus always stays level, which is critical for safety, handling, and passenger comfort.

Common Issues and Maintenance

Leaks: The most common issue. Air can leak from a cracked or perished rubber bag, a faulty seal, or a damaged air line. You'll often hear a hissing sound.

Failed Compressor or Dryer: If the compressor fails, the entire system loses pressure, and the bus will sag. A failed dryer can lead to water in the system, causing corrosion and valve failures.

Faulty Height Valve: A stuck valve can cause the bus to over-inflate (ride too high) or deflate completely (ride on the emergency stops).
