Salt Spray Test Chamber

Product Introduce
1. The corrosion of both protected and unprotected metals is influenced by numerous environmental factors, which depend primarily on the type of metal and the environment. Designing a laboratory accelerated corrosion test chamber that encompasses all environmental factors affecting corrosion resistance is impossible. Therefore, laboratory tests are designed to simulate the factors that primarily contribute to metal corrosion. This equipment is designed to simulate and enhance the environmental effects on metals exposed to salt-contaminated, corrosion-accelerating outdoor atmospheres. The equipment includes test methods for cyclically exposing specimens to salt spray, dry, and humid heat. This equipment test is comparative, and the test results cannot predict the long-term corrosion resistance of the same metals used under these environmental conditions. However, this method can provide valuable information on the performance of materials exposed to salt-contaminated environments similar to the test conditions. The greatest advantage of this equipment test over traditional accelerated corrosion tests, such as the neutral salt spray test (NSS), the acetic acid salt spray test (AASS), and the copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test (CASS), is that it better reproduces corrosion occurring in outdoor salt-contaminated environments.
2. This equipment is suitable for accelerated corrosion testing of: metals and their alloys, metal coatings (anodic and cathodic), conversion coatings, anodic oxidation coatings, organic coatings on metal materials, etc.
Standard
ASTM B117
Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus – This
is the first internationally recognized salt spray testing
standard, originally published in 1939. It primarily addresses
neutral salt spray (NSS) testing and specifies test equipment,
solution preparation, and operating protocols.
ISO 9227
Corrosion Tests in Artificial Atmospheres – Salt Spray Tests – This
globally recognized standard covers neutral salt spray (NSS), acid
salt spray (AASS), and copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray
(CASS) tests, providing detailed corrosion testing guidance.
ASTM G85
Standard Practice for Modified Salt Spray (Fog) Testing – This
modified salt spray testing standard is suitable for more complex
corrosion simulations, including cyclic testing.
Application
Salt spray test chambers are primarily used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of materials, coatings, and products, particularly those exposed to marine or salt spray environments. They cover a wide range of testing categories, including:
Metals and Coated Products: Phosphated surfaces (with
paint/primer/varnish/rust inhibitor), zinc and zinc alloy coatings,
electroplated chrome, aluminum oxide (anodized aluminum coating),
carbon steel to high-alloy stainless steel, and titanium.
Organic and Paint Coatings: Tests the durability of organic
coatings, paints, and corrosion protection coatings.
Electronic and Electrical Components: Tests electronic components,
protective coatings, and surface-treated products, such as circuit
boards and connectors.
Automotive and Transportation Parts: Tests automotive parts and
metal corrosion, including salt spray resistance of coatings and
platings.
Medical and Automation Products: Tests medical devices, automation
components, and any products with surface treatments such as paint
or oil.
Other Applications: Tests laboratory environmental testing and
material durability assessments for the aviation, construction,
marine, and consumer goods industries.
Parameter
1. Equipment Functions:
Salt spray test mode and damp heat mode (including dry, damp heat, and condensation) can be switched freely. Combined testing or individual function tests can be performed through programmable programming.
2. Control Accuracy:
Temperature Resolution: 0.01°C
Humidity Resolution: 0.1%RH
Temperature Deviation: ≤±2.0°C
Humidity Deviation: ≤+2-3%RH for ≥75%RH; ≤±5%RH for <75%RH
Temperature Uniformity: ≤2°C
Humidity Uniformity: ≤+2-3%RH for ≥75%RH; ≤±5%RH for <75%RH
Temperature Fluctuation: ±0.5°C
Humidity Fluctuation: ±2%RH
Note: Temperature uniformity and deviation are measured at an
ambient temperature of +25°C, relative humidity ≤85%RH, and without
a test specimen.
3. Salt Spray Test Function and Parameters:
Temperature Range: Ambient to 55°C (adjustable)
Salt Fog Deposition: Adjustable 1-2 ml/h/80 cm² (average value
calculated over a 16-hour period)
Note: The spray rate monitoring point is located at a height of 1/3
of the chamber height from the top surface of the collector, 150 mm
from the inner wall of the equipment.
Salt Fog Deposition Uniformity: ±0.5 ml/h/80 cm² (over a 16-hour
period)
Spray Mode: Continuous or intermittent programmable, with
quantitative control
Spray System: Filter installed in the brine tank for cleanable
reuse; each nozzle is removable, detachable, and cleanable.
Brine Concentration: 5% ± 1% or specified value
Brine pH: Neutral 6.5-7.2, Acidic 3.0-3.2
Saturator Temperature Range: Adjustable from ambient temperature to
70°C.
Spray pressure: 70-170 kPa
