Introduction:

Triethylsilane appears as a colorless or light brown oily liquid; it is soluble in most polar organic solvents and is often used in CH2Cl2; its density is 0.728 g/mL (25°C), its boiling point is 107-108°C, and its flash point is -39°C.

Uses:

1. Used in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical intermediates
2. Triethylsilane (Et3SiH for short) is a common reducing agent, mainly used in organosilicon synthesis. Generally, the reduction reaction is carried out in an alkaline environment. The biggest feature of triethylsilane is that it can be used as a reducing agent in an acidic environment such as TFA. It can be used for the reduction of acetals or the elimination of terminal alkoxy groups of sugars. In addition, it can be used with transition metal catalysts for silylation addition.
