The Production Process of Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Grating
Hot-dip galvanized steel grating is widely used in various
industries due to its high strength, durability, and anti-corrosion
properties. This article will introduce the detailed production
process of hot-dip galvanized steel grating.
Material Preparation
The first step in the production of hot-dip galvanized steel
grating is the selection and preparation of raw materials.
High-quality carbon steel bars are commonly used as the main
material. These steel bars should meet specific standards in terms
of chemical composition and mechanical properties to ensure the
quality of the final product. The bars are carefully cut into
appropriate lengths according to the design requirements of the
steel grating.
Welding Process
After the material is prepared, the steel bars are assembled and
welded to form the basic structure of the grating. There are two
main welding methods: pressure resistance welding and manual arc
welding. Pressure resistance welding is a more efficient and
commonly used method. In this process, the cross bars and bearing
bars are placed in a welding machine, and under high pressure and
electric current, they are welded together at the intersection
points. This method ensures strong and uniform welds, improving the
overall strength and stability of the grating. Manual arc welding
is usually used for some special or small-scale production
requirements, where welders use arc welding equipment to manually
weld the bars. However, this method requires higher skills from the
welders and is more time-consuming.
Pretreatment before Galvanizing
Before hot-dip galvanizing, the welded steel grating needs to
undergo a series of pretreatment processes to ensure the quality of
galvanizing. First, it is degreased to remove any oil, grease, or
dirt on the surface of the grating. This can be achieved by using
chemical degreasing agents or through mechanical methods such as
ultrasonic cleaning. After degreasing, the grating is pickled to
remove rust and oxide layers on the surface. Pickling is usually
carried out in an acid solution, which reacts with the rust and
oxide to dissolve them. After pickling, the grating is thoroughly
rinsed with water to remove any remaining acid.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing Process
The hot-dip galvanizing process is the core step in the production
of hot-dip galvanized steel grating. The pretreated steel grating
is immersed in a molten zinc bath at a temperature of about 450°C.
At this high temperature, a metallurgical reaction occurs between
the iron in the steel and the zinc in the bath, forming a series of
zinc-iron alloy layers on the surface of the steel. The thickness
of the galvanized layer can be adjusted according to different
requirements by controlling the immersion time and the composition
of the zinc bath. After being taken out of the zinc bath, the
galvanized steel grating is allowed to cool naturally. During the
cooling process, the zinc layer solidifies and forms a smooth and
dense protective layer on the surface of the grating.
Quality Inspection
After the production process is completed, a strict quality
inspection is carried out on the hot-dip galvanized steel grating.
Visual inspection is first performed to check for any surface
defects such as cracks, pores, or uneven galvanizing. Then, the
thickness of the galvanized layer is measured using specialized
instruments to ensure that it meets the specified standards. In
addition, the mechanical properties of the grating, such as its
load-bearing capacity and tensile strength, are also tested. Only
the products that pass all the quality inspection items can be
released from the factory.
