Sedimentation Tank
Product Overview
The Sedimentation Tank is a crucial unit in water and wastewater treatment systems. It removes suspended solids from raw water through gravity settling, allowing heavier particles to accumulate at the bottom while clarified water flows out from the top. This process effectively reduces the load on downstream filtration and biological treatment units, ensuring stable and efficient system operation.
Working Principle
Water enters the sedimentation tank through the inlet distribution system and flows slowly across the tank. Under the action of gravity, suspended solids settle to the bottom, forming a sludge layer. The clarified water at the upper part flows out through the overflow weir. The settled sludge is periodically removed by a mechanical scraper or suction system to maintain continuous operation.
Main Components
Inlet Distribution System: Ensures uniform flow of water entering the tank and prevents short-circuiting.
Sedimentation Zone: The main area where solid-liquid separation occurs under gravity.
Sludge Hopper / Sludge Collection Zone: Located at the bottom to collect and store settled sludge.
Sludge Scraper or Suction Device: Mechanically removes accumulated sludge for discharge.
Effluent Weir: Uniformly collects clarified water and maintains stable water levels.
Drive Unit (Central or Peripheral): Provides the motion for the scraper or suction mechanism.
Tank Body: Made of reinforced concrete, stainless steel, or anti-corrosion coated carbon steel.
Walkway and Handrail: Provide safe access for operation and maintenance.
Control System (Optional): Monitors and automates sludge discharge and flow control.
