EBT Electric Arc Furnace | Core Equipment for High-efficiency Slag-free Tapping & Short-process Steelmaking


Eccentric Bottom Tapping Electric Arc Furnace (EBT) is the core equipment of modern steelmaking short-process. Adopting furnace bottom eccentric tapping design, it realizes slag-free tapping and residual steel & slag retaining operation, which greatly improves molten steel quality and production efficiency, and meets the demand of ultra-high power smelting.

1. Equipment Composition


The EBT electric arc furnace consists of four core modules: furnace body system, mechanical system, electrical system and auxiliary system, featuring compact structure and high automation.

1.1 Furnace Body System


  • Furnace Shell: Divided into upper and lower shell. The lower part adopts nasal elliptical eccentric structure, lined with magnesium carbon brick / alumina-magnesia refractory brick. Water-cooled furnace wall coverage reaches 87%-90%.
  • Water-cooled Furnace Roof: Fully water-cooled structure with electrode hole in the center, equipped with sealing and smoke exhaust device.
  • Eccentric Tapping Box: Tapping hole set at the eccentric position of furnace bottom, matched with sliding gate / stopper opening and closing mechanism, filled with magnesia drainage sand for automatic pouring start.

1.2 Mechanical System


  • Electrode Lifting Mechanism: Copper-steel composite / aluminum alloy conductive cross arm with servo drive to adjust electrode lifting and arc power.
  • Furnace Tilting Mechanism: Hydraulic drive. Tilting angle on tapping side is only 5°-15°, with simplified structure and reduced short network loss.
  • Furnace Roof Lifting & Rotating Mechanism: Electric / hydraulic drive, cooperating with scrap charging and furnace maintenance.
  • Oxygen & Carbon Injection Lance System: Furnace wall bundled jet design, supporting foamed slag submerged arc smelting, enhancing oxygen supply and carburizing efficiency.

1.3 Electrical System


  • Furnace Transformer: Ultra-high power configuration, unit power ≥ 600kVA/t, providing stable arc power supply.
  • Short Network System: High-current conductive loop with low impedance design to reduce power loss.
  • PLC Automatic Control System: Integrated electrode regulation, power control, tilting operation and safety interlock, supporting remote monitoring and data traceability.

1.4 Auxiliary System


  • Water Cooling System: Closed circulating water cooling key components such as furnace shell, furnace roof and electrode cross arm.
  • Hydraulic System: Providing power for furnace tilting, electrode lifting and tapping hole opening & closing.
  • Dedusting & Smoke Exhaust System: Equipped with bag dust removal / waste heat recovery to meet environmental protection standards.
  • Ladle & Ladle Car: Undertaking molten steel and matching with LF/VOD refining process.
