Inconel 625 Strips: High-Temperature Strength · Corrosion and Stress-Cracking Resistance

Inconel 625 Strips: High-Temperature Strength · Corrosion and Stress-Cracking Resistance

Product Overview

Inconel 625 Strips (UNS N06625) are precision-rolled, nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium strips engineered for demanding high-temperature and corrosive environments. These strips combine outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice and stress-corrosion cracking with excellent mechanical strength across a broad temperature range, from cryogenic service up to 1093 °C (2000 °F). Unlike precipitation-hardened alloys, Inconel 625 derives its strength through solid-solution strengthening of molybdenum and niobium, delivering a tensile strength of up to 930 MPa and yield strength of 517 MPa in the annealed condition while maintaining elongation of 42.5 %. The alloy’s non-magnetic nature and fabricability—suitable for stamping, forming, and fine blanking—make it ideal for honeycomb cores, diaphragms, bellows, springs, and seals in aerospace and power-generation applications. In marine and chemical processing, these strips resist chloride-bearing environments and acidic media, ensuring long service life in heat exchangers, tube support plates, and corrosion-resistant linings.

Conformance Standards

  • ASTM B443 / ASME SB-443 – Nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium strip, sheet & plate

  • AMS 5599 – Strip and foil form

  • UNS N06625 – Unified designation

  • ISO 15156-3 / NACE MR0175-3 – Sour service environments

Applications

Inconel 625 Strips excel in a wide range of sectors:

  • Aerospace: Honeycomb cores, seals, springs, diaphragms, bellows

  • Power Generation: Turbine blade shims, heat-exchanger fins, combustion liners

  • Chemical Processing: Reactor linings, bubbling caps, transfer piping, tube support plates

  • Marine: Sheathing for undersea communication cables, steam-liner bellows, seawater components

  • Nuclear: Reactor-core springs, control-rod clips

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why choose Inconel 625 Strips over other nickel alloys?
A1: Their solid-solution strengthening avoids the need for precipitation hardening, yielding stable mechanical properties from cryogenic to 1093 °C, coupled with superior resistance to pitting and chloride stress-corrosion cracking.

Q2: Are Inconel 625 Strips weldable without properties degradation?
A2: Yes. Standard TIG/GTAW or electron-beam welding, followed by solution annealing if required, preserves the alloy’s toughness and corrosion resistance.

Q3: What dimensional tolerances are available for strips?
A3: Thicknesses from 0.05 mm to 5 mm and widths up to 300 mm are standard, with custom tolerances achievable upon request.
