Yokohama Type Marine Ship Factory Directly Supply Pneumatic Rubber Fenders

Floating pneumatic rubber fenders are known as Yokohama fenders or Yokohama-type pneumatic fenders. Floating pneumatic rubber fenders are made of the synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheet with compressed air inside. The insider air can enable it to float on the water and work as a shock absorbed between two ships (ship-to-ship), or between ships and berthing structures when they come alongside each other on the water. All Doowin Marine Yokohama type floating pneumatic rubber fenders are manufactured and tested fully compliant with ISO 17357


Floating pneumatic rubber fenders can be easily handled and installed with guy-rope or guy-chain because of their lightweight. It can resist the shearing force and maintain energy absorption level under inclined compression up to 15 degrees. Meanwhile, provide low and comparatively even hull pressure.

Consisted of several synthetic-cord layers and tough abrasion-resistant rubber, they have consistent performance even under rough conditions and cyclic load. The maintenance cost and damage risk are minimized too. The best material also ensures self-buoyancy and extremely long service life.


Pneumatic fenders are available from 500 mm to 4,500 mm in diameters, and from 500 mm to 9,000 mm in length. All sizes of pneumatic rubber fenders are available as sling-type or with a heavy-duty chain & tire net. We also supply vertical hydropneumatic fenders for submarines. Foam filled fenders are floating fenders too.

Note: The floating pneumatic rubber fenders have sometimes been colloquially referred to as “Yokohama Fenders” or “Yokohama type fenders” – ISO 17357:2002 Ships and marine technology — High-pressure floating pneumatic rubber fenders.

Pneumatic rubber fenders are constructed from synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheets with compressed air inside, enabling them to float on water and serve as shock absorbers between ships (ship-to-ship) or between ships and berthing structures during docking operations.
These fenders consist of an outer rubber layer, reinforcement synthetic-tire-cord layer, and inner rubber layer, all vulcanized firmly together. Fenders with diameters of 2500mm and larger include safety valves to release excess internal pressure during accidental over-compression. The material properties comply with ISO 17357:2002 standards.

Construction Components
  • Outer Rubber: Protects cord layers and inner rubber from abrasion and external forces. The compound offers excellent tensile and tear resistance to withstand harsh weather conditions and heavy usage.
  • Tire Cord Layers: Reinforcement layer designed to maintain internal air pressure integrity.
  • Inner Rubber: Seals the pressurized air within the fender structure.

Pneumatic Fender Type

There are two common types our Pneumatic Rubber Fenders.
Type I — Net Type Covered with a chain net, wire net, or fiber net for small size fenders
Type II — Sling Type This type of fender has a lifting device on each end, which shall be connected with a guy chain or guy-rope. Without a protection net, easy to handle with lightweight)
