European Standard EN124 Pressure Grade D400 Cast Iron Round Manhole Cover

The installation steps of D400 round cast iron manhole cover (taking municipal road scene as an example) can be operated according to the following process specifications to ensure firm installation, adaptability to the road surface, and bearing performance:

1. Construction preparation

Materials and tools: Prepare D400 round cast iron manhole cover, manhole ring, C25 and above grade concrete, steel bars (if necessary), as well as level, vibrator, cutter, wrench and other tools.
Site survey: Check the size of the wellhead, clean up the surrounding debris and soil, check the flatness and verticality of the wellbore, replace the soft foundation with graded gravel + medium coarse sand in advance and compact it (density ≥95%).

2. Foundation treatment and well frame installation

Well frame positioning: Place the well frame at the wellhead, ensure that the edge is aligned with the wellhead, level it with a level (horizontal error ≤2mm), pour C25 concrete (width ≥300mm, thickness ≥150mm) at the bottom and around the well frame, and vibrate it to make it dense. If there are anchor steel bars ("U"-shaped / "L"-shaped, diameter ≥12mm threaded steel bars), bury them in the reserved holes of the manhole frame or fix them tightly.
Elevation control: According to the elevation of the road surface, use the "cross method" to measure the positioning points to control the elevation of the top of the manhole frame, and smoothly connect with the road surface (especially asphalt road surface), which is convenient for paving the surface layer in the later stage.

3. Installation and fixation of manhole covers

Placement of manhole covers: When the concrete strength of the manhole frame reaches the requirements (generally maintained for about 7 days), multiple people will cooperate to gently place the manhole cover on the manhole frame to ensure that it fits well and there is no obvious gap, and check whether it is opened and closed smoothly.
Fixed anti-theft: If equipped with bolts, tighten them with a wrench; special locks can also be used to prevent vehicles from rolling over and external forces from loosening and shifting, anti-theft and ensuring safe use.

4. Finished product protection and acceptance

Water-tight test (applicable to rainwater and sewage wells): Water-tight test shall be performed within 24 hours after installation. The test water head is the upstream pipe top + 2m, and the water seepage is ≤0.0046×D (D is the inner diameter of the pipe, mm), and the sealing is tested.
Pavement restoration and cleaning: If it is on an asphalt pavement, the area around the manhole cover is filled with asphalt to make it smooth; cement pavement is repaired with concrete of the same grade. Clean up the debris and tools on site, check the contact and flatness between the manhole cover and the well frame, ensure that there is no looseness or abnormal sound, and meet the load-bearing and use standards.

Different projects have different designs and environments. For example, in soft foundations and heavy-loaded industrial areas, foundation reinforcement needs to be strengthened; strictly follow the drawings, specifications and on-site instructions to ensure installation quality.
