24V DC U23D Linear Actuator 40000N Push Pull for Solar Heliostat Positioning

24V DC U23D Linear Actuator 40000N Push Pull for Solar Heliostat Positioning

40,000N Rated Load in Both Push and Pull Directions

For solar heliostat positioning applications requiring high operating load in both directions, the TOMUU U23D provides a 40,000N rated push load and 40,000N rated pull load at 24V DC.

The same actuator has a 55,000N maximum static load. For project selection, the operating load and static load should be considered separately rather than treated as one maximum load value.

What Does 40,000N Push & Pull Mean?

The 40,000N rating describes the U23D operating load in both directions: 40,000N while pushing during extension and 40,000N while pulling during retraction.

The 55,000N maximum static load describes a different condition. It is the maximum static load specified for the actuator when it is not moving and should not be interpreted as a 55,000N operating load.

U23D Load Definition
Rated Push Load: 40,000N
Rated Pull Load: 40,000N
Maximum Static Load: 55,000N

For the Code A configuration, the rated speed is 1.0mm/s at 24V DC. U23D configurations cover a low-speed range of 0.125–1.5mm/s according to project requirements.

Applying the 40kN Configuration to a Heliostat

A heliostat actuator cannot be selected by comparing the 40,000N rating only with the weight of the mirror structure. The actual force acting on the actuator changes with the mechanical arrangement of the heliostat.

Factors that affect actual actuator load include:

Mounting angle · Actuator attachment position · Lever arm · Mirror position · Stroke position · Structural geometry · External project conditions

As the heliostat rotates, the actuator angle and mechanical leverage can change. This means actuator load may also vary at different points of the movement range.

For this reason, the required push load, pull load and static load should be evaluated together with the actual installation geometry before the final U23D configuration is confirmed.

Stroke & Installation Geometry

For U23D, the minimum installation dimension follows the 200mm ±2mm + Stroke relationship, with the selected stroke defined as S ±2mm.

Stroke is project-specific. The final configuration should therefore be based on the heliostat's required movement range, available installation space and actuator mounting points.

When evaluating an application, providing both the required stroke and the mounting dimensions is more useful than providing stroke alone.

40kN U23D in a Real CSP Heliostat Application

TOMUU U23D actuators are used in the heliostat tracking system of the Anduo Tushuo CSP project in Tibet, China, located at approximately 4,650 meters above sea level.

The project provides a real application reference for U23D in a solar tower heliostat positioning system. U23D actuators form part of the mechanical positioning system used to control heliostat movement.
