An open mixing mill is a batch mixer designed for plastic and
rubber compounds. It features two counter-rotating rollers with
adjustable spacing, primarily used to homogenize and plasticize raw
materials before calendering. In rubber processing, the rollers
apply compression and shear forces that knead the material
repeatedly, blending components while inducing chemical reactions
that reduce molecular chain length for optimal dispersion and
plasticization.
